چکیده

Background: This study focused on evaluating the diversity and richness of edaphic macrofauna in eight banana farms western zone Nicaragua. Methods: The sampling design was random descriptive, it divided into two phases, first collection sample, second classification, coding, storage extracted populations. Subsequently, indices species richness, relative abundance, by functional groups were estimated. Results: results showed that abundance biodiversity higher 0–20 cm soil depth stratum than branch leaf biomass strata. values of Dominion, Simpson, Shanon, Margalef, Equity normal range, with a tendency towards low diversity. Likewise, species, Dominant or most abundant genus earthworms (Oligochaeta) Hymenoptera (Solenopsis, Leptothorax, Camponotus, Pheidole), indicating directly proportional relationship, is to say, greater number production increases decreases, confirmed Pearson correlation coefficient reliability 95%. Conclusions: It concluded based estimates indicators, detritivore (earthworms Hymenoptera) ones greatest presence, being important agrosystem due decomposition organic matter its nutritional contribution plant. We observed direct an indirect relationship Hymenoptera.

Extraction and characterization of pectin from Saba banana [Musa ‘saba’(Musa acuminata x Musa balbisiana)] peel wastes: A preliminary study

Saba banana, Musa ‘saba’(Musa acuminata x Musa balbisiana) peel is an underutilized waste from processed banana manufacturing in the Philippines. The feasibility of saba banana peel pectin for use in food processing was assessed. Pectin from saba banana peel was extracted under two different extraction conditions. Pectin extraction was carried out using hydrochloric acid (0.5N, pH 1.5) and citr...

Carbohydrate binding properties of banana (Musa acuminata) lectin

Examination of lectins of banana (Musa acuminata) and the closely related plantain (Musa spp.) by the techniques of quantitative precipitation, hapten inhibition of precipitation, and isothermal titration calorimetry showed that they are mannose/glucose binding proteins with a preference for the a-anomeric form of these sugars. Both generate precipitin curves with branched chain a-mannans (yeas...

Impact of resistant starch in three plantain (Musa AAB) products on glycaemic response of healthy volunteers.

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE STUDY Plantains can be eaten in various forms providing a good opportunity to study the effect of starch type on glycaemic response, and so three products differing in their types of available carbohydrate and contents of resistant starch were tested. METHODS Boiled unripe plantain (BUP), boiled unripe plantain crisps (BUPC), ripe raw plantain (RRP) and white bread a...

Effect of benzylaminopurine (BAP) pulsing on in vitro shoot multiplication of Musa acuminata (banana) cv. Berangan

MS (Murashige and Skoog) media supplemented with benzylaminopurine (BAP) showed that the number of bud formation in shoot cultures of Musa acuminata cv.Berangan during the initiation stage increased proportionately with the concentrations used (11, 22 and 33 μM). However, the highest concentration of BAP (33 μM) simultaneously increased the formation of abnormal shoots. After the first apical b...
